Betsy

Betsy, affectionately known as The Spa Nerd, hails from the sunny locales of Fort Myers, Florida. Her journey into the world of massage therapy began in an unconventional venue – the high school theater. It was there, amidst lines and rehearsals, that Betsy discovered her knack for easing tension through shoulder massages to her classmates. This initial spark of interest led her to pursue formal education at the Heritage Institute, where she dedicated 1,000 hours to mastering her craft, culminating in her national certification as a massage therapist in 2005.

Her professional path initially intertwined with the medical community, where she spent several years collaborating with chiropractors and physical therapists. This experience honed her skills in therapeutic massage, specifically aimed at aiding those recovering from injuries. In 2007, Betsy’s career took a pivotal turn when she joined the team at Hyatt Regency Coconut Point in Bonita Springs, FL, and later transferred to the Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach Resort and Spa in 2011. Starting as an on-call massage therapist, her expertise and dedication saw her rise to the position of Lead/Training Spa Technician. Between 2010 and 2012, Betsy embraced the role of educator at Cortiva Institute, where she imparted her knowledge on a variety of techniques including Swedish, Hot Stones, Prenatal, Chair Massage, and Hydrotherapy. Her passion for teaching continued to flourish, leading her back to the classroom in 2020 at the Summit Salon Academy, where she played a pivotal role in developing the massage program and currently serves as the Lead Massage Instructor.

Betsy’s commitment to broadening her skill set led her to Sunstate Academy in Clearwater, FL, in 2014, where she completed the Full Specialty program focusing on skincare, nail care/treatments, and makeup. Her exceptional service has not only endeared her to celebrity clients but also earned her the playful moniker “Mighty Mouse” from an NFL player. With a repertoire that includes Swedish, Therapeutic, Hot Stone, Warm Shell, and Aromatherapy massages, Betsy’s expertise spans a wide array of modalities. It is this deep-seated passion for skincare, massage, nails, and overall well-being that inspired her to start this blog. With over a decade of experience in the spa industry, Betsy is eager to share her insights, passion, and professional tips with her readers, fostering a community centered around the art and science of spa treatments and holistic health.

  1. There are massages and there are oil rubs. When Betsy gives a massage your muscles know they’ve been worked over. She does a very therapeutic deep tissue which is my favorite. The Swedish massage she performs is very relaxing and yet the muscles are given their much desired attemtion!
